being a fan of martial arts movies, Ninja has alot of parrallels to this movie called Enter The Ninja. Both have lead chars named Cole/Casey who study Ninjutsu at a masters school. Both of them have bad blood with a former student named Hasagawa/Masazuka. Both of them end up facing each other at the end and both Has/Masa get killed the same way among other things, though Ninja does not have Casey coming to the rescue of an old military buddy then becoming a plot similar to that of an episode of The A-Team. However when comparing this to Ninja Assassin, Ninja has more realistic action sequences while Ninja Assassin blends in alot of non Japanese Martial arts in with it. Though the most realistic display of Ninjutsu that I have seen came from The Hunted with John Lone and Christopher Lambert.

Yeah not to dismiss Ninja Assassin, but I wonder "Ninjas doing Kung Fu?" 'Shakes head with disbelief.'
They say it's a homage to old Japanese Ninja films, but how can it be a homage if they're not using Japanese martial arts? Maybe they're just counting on Sho Kosugi in there as homage (since he starred in a lot of old ninja films)?
Like you said, the story reminds of Enter the Ninja, but visuals and ninja costumes reminds me a bit of Ryu Hayabusa's outfit in Ninja Gaiden video game.

Well Casey's does but Masa's just looks bad ass and is probally one of my fav ninja outfits. And as for what scene i am talking about in The Hunted, the opening scene where they kill the guards at the hospital. And i would agree with you James about them trying to ride the brothers and sho's coat tails.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing the hunted. Think it's been a while since I saw it (I lloved Jone Lone's performance in it!).
I think a lot of fans are just caught up saying "Wow, it's Sho Kosugi!", that a lot of them are missing the fact that a lot of them aren't even aware that it's not Japanese martial arts!
Oh well, I think it still will be entertaining, so I am looking forward to it despite my criticisms.

Yes, I still think it will be a good film, despite this fault, as thats kinda what i liked about the old films, atleast some of them were accurate, as both sho and sonny chiba know their stuff, and from this movie, so does scott and the guy that played Masazuka. Also having IRL world champs preforming as students didnt hurt either.
