Well, apparently that's what it says on the sites, but one of the stars Luke Goss (who plays aged Steve Fox in the movie), said in Luke Goss Forum:

"I don't have the skinny BUT Crystal Sky have never implied this is going straight to DVD. And from the response at AFM
they are expecting Theatrical."
LG

So it could change. But I think I feel a bit disappointed with the storyline they have taken for this movie - they've ignored a lot of game continuity and plot elements to take the realism approach (there doesn't seem to be devil gene and I wanted to see Devil Jin on this film!)

I was expecting a jewel of a video game adaptation like first Mortal Kombat movie (which while remaining pretty faithful to the game plotline, still is an entertaining movie), but feel a bit let down by this.

But I guess I'll still go and see this because Tekken's my favourite fighting game. And it can't be worse than atrocity which was legend of chun li or upcoming king of fighters which looks crap.

It will probably not be as bad as DOA. At least they have martial artists in lead roles like Jon Foo, Gary Daniels and Cung Le.

Still not sure when this is released or the trailer, but play.com has a cool DVD cover.

It seems Tekken is officially going straight to DVD (at least for UK). Whether it gets limited theatrical release for US or any other countries is unknown. Official DVD and Blu-ray release date is no April 5.

p.s. I wonder if this has anything to do with not being backed by a major Hollywood studio (since atrocity like legend of Chun Li and Dragonball Evolution was released theatrically)?

A higher resolution DVD cover, with Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Bryan Fury, Eddy Gordo, Raven, Marshall Law, Yoshimitsu, Christie Monteiro

Also, on set pic of Christie, Miguel, Anna and Bryan.

The marketing has started for Tekken in Japan!

I personally like this poster much better than the AFM poster. Maybe there's hope for this movie afterall (although story might be a bit different from the games)

Also, good to at least see part of Heihachi's face in this poster.

Eddy Goro, a mix between Eddy and Goro from Mortal Kombat :) The japanese poster looks awesome and I can already tell that this will be better than DOA. Well I hope it will, lol.

The first Tekken trailer is here:

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/12263994 ... oduct.html

Scroll down and press play.

after some repeat viewings my thoughts on the trailer -

- The fights do look cool, but the trailer is edited to show them really fast so I can't tell much moves except for Eddy (Lateef)
- Roger Huerta's "This is Iron Fist!" phrase seems a bit .....
- Cary's face is shown, but his hair seems ...

- Why is Kazuya swinging two axes? In the games with exception of Yoshimitsu and Jacks, the characters do not use weapons in the series!

- Eddy looks good as usual

- Poor Dragunov - being beaten mercilessly..... do I see Bryan whipping chain around his neck to choke him? Dragunov fans will be devastated.

- Jon's voice as Jin throughout the whole trailer sounds a bit too high pitched compared to Jin's game voice - I know it's impossible to get exact same voice as games (and I'm not asking it to be), but it seems his voice pitch is just too high (the same problem I have with Ray Park whenever he gets any speaking roles)

- They seem to have the Devil tattoo - but why am I getting the feeling it would be like the Snake Eyes situation in GI Joe movie?

- Kazuya's line: "I remember your mother, she put up quite a fight" sounds pretty menacing. And Kazuya walking out of the explosion seems badass as well.

- Uhh Jin is kissing Christie? (or it could be Kara, but looks like Christie)

While the trailer did look cool (because I like action movies in general) - as a Tekken fan, I feel mixed about this one. It looks much better than KOF trailer, but it doesn't seem to be as faithful to the game series as it could have been (or as I was hoping it to be). The biggest part that concerns me is the weapon in the arena choice. I would have preferred all the fights to be non-weapon (with excpetion of yoshimitsu of course)
